DC United is one of the most heavily covered teams in all of Major League Soccer. The team is covered consistently by two daily newspapers and by scores of both soccer and non-soccer related blogs.

Contents

[edit] Daily Newspapers

The Washington Post [1] covers United[2] extensively thanks to its talented writer Steven Goff. Goff also has his own (mostly United-related) blog[3] where he shares news and thoughts that he can't get into the paper. The Post also waded into somewhat uncharted territory last season when columnist Mike Wise called for Peter Nowak not to be retained as United manager after DC was eliminated in the playoffs.[4]

The Washington Times [5] also covers United extensively with its beat writer John Haydon.

Locally-based USA Today[6] also covers United as part of its MLS coverage.

[edit] TV/Radio

DC United's matches are covered by a variety of television channels with the majority broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet featuring Dave Johnson and former MLS goalkeeper (and current attorney) Garth Lagerway. United's matches are also broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, ABC, Univision, TeleFutura, HDNet and Fox Soccer Channel as part of national packages.

Comcast Sportsnet also airs "Lunch With DC United." That show features replays of memorable matches in United's past. The program airs at 11 a.m. on Sundays. United is one of the few teams in the league to receive a rights fee for its local broadcasts and to have them broadcast in high definition.[7]

All of United's matches are broadcast live on the radio by WFED 1050 AM in English and WACA 97.1 FM in Spanish.

[edit] Other Media Outlets

United is fortunate to have a large number of other Web sites and blogs that cover the team. These include:

Both the Screaming Eagles and the Barra Brava have their own beat writers that cover the team on a consistent basis for their respective Web sites.

United is also covered by large contingent of Spanish-language publications.

[edit] Bigsoccer

United and its fans also have a thriving community at the soccer message board site Bigsoccer.com[18] United has its own series of boards[19] on subjects including United news, the supporters clubs and out of town fans.

United management uses Bigsoccer as a way communicating with its fans. Stephen Zach often posts messages to supporters as a way of reaching them directly.
