Preliminary Outline: DC United New Fan's Guide

[edit] 1. Before the Game

        1. Where should I get my seats?
               * The Loud Side (mention sight lines, off-color cheers)
               * The Quiet Side
        2. Who are the other teams?
               * Small paragraph on what to expect to see from a given team and why to buy tickets for them.
        3. Park vs. Metro
               * Tips on traffic, parking, and getting to and from the game easily
        4. What should I wear?
               * Black, or white, but not orange, yellow, green, blue. Kids can wear their teams uniform, but unless they're playing a game at halftime you don't need to put them in shin-guards.
        5. What can I bring into RFK?
               * Be safe, expect for purse to be checked, and you can't bring your own food.
        6. How do I get a free beer?

[edit] 2. During the Game

        1. Who's who on the field?
               * Small bios and uniform numbers of most of DC's players. Emphasize their role when they play.
        2. What's a foul?
               * Simple discussion?
        3. I saw a foul, why wasn't it called?
               * A: The ref is blind, or perhaps advantage is being played.
        4. Okay, what the hell is this offside thing?
               * Quick, simple discussion. Mention that there are complications like passive vs. active, but essentially the AR flags it.
        5. What's going on?
               * A brief orientation to explain what to look for tactically. Keep this very simple, but mention things like space, counterattacking, possession, pressure, etc...
        6. Are we winning?
               * How to tell if United is playing well even if they haven't gotten a lead yet.

[edit] 3. After the Game

        1. How can I join those bouncing, drumming people?
               * Contact data for SE, BB, and LN
        2. Where can I follow the team?
               * Websites, blogs, media, magazines...
        3. Who should I thank for this lovely guide?
               * Contributor credits
