When buying your tickets, consider that the quality of the opponent frequently affects how enjoyable a game you'll see. Below is a list of the teams D.C. United will be facing, as well as a few reasons why you might be interested in each team...

[edit] Eastern Conference

  1. Chicago Fire: In recent years Chicago has effectively neutralized DC's short-passing based attack with aggressive ball pressure. A big question for this year will be whether DC's new offensive weapons are better in overcoming these tactics. To add a little spice, the Fire has added Mexican soccer legend Cuauhtemoc Blanco who is sure to attract area immigrants to cheer on their hero and his teammates.
  2. Columbus Crew: Expect a slow, defensive battle with the Crew. Columbus has a young team that will be focused on fundamentals and look to use their quick forwards to run the counter-attack.
  3. Kansas City Wizards: Kansas City has lagged after losing to DC in the 2004 MLS Cup. A talented team, they have not lived up to expectations. With a new coach and new ownership this year they could once again be a dangerous team.
  4. New England Revolution: Matches between New England and DC have been either high scoring shootouts or low scoring but nail-biting wars. The intensity level is always high when these two teams play, it is just a matter of how the game plays out.
  5. New York Red Bulls: The traditional rival to D.C. United, the New York Red Bulls feature former Team USA captain Claudio Reyna and former D.C. United as well as US national team head coach Bruce Arena. This team will play like it has something to prove this year.
  6. Toronto FC: Former D.C. United striker Alecko Eskandarian leads the Toronto attack. This expansion side is new to the league, but has a decent coach in Mo Johnston and a plethora of proven starters.

[edit] Western Conference

  1. CD Chivas USA: A young team that features 2006 MLS Rookie of the Year Jonathan Bornstein can produce dramatics and may take people by surprise this year.
  2. Colorado Rapids: Another team that typically plays conservative, defensive football, Colorado can lock down any game in which they get a lead.
  3. FC Dallas: Up and coming USA striker Kenny Cooper and an enigmatic Carlos Ruiz lead a talented, if occasionally erratic, FC Dallas team.
  4. Houston Dynamo: The reigning MLS Champions feature dynamic playmakers like Dwayne DeRosario, 2006 Goal of the Year striker Brian Ching, and a physical defensive back line.
  5. Los Angeles Galaxy: The legendary David Beckham will be with them for their one visit to DC this season as well as US national team regular Landon Donovan, who scored two goals on United at RFK last year.
  6. Real Salt Lake:Former United players such as midfielder Freddy Adu, keeper Nick Rimando, and defender Eddie Pope will help make each encounter with RSL a personal one.
